who have helped Lencho. Are there people like Lencho in the real world? What kind of a person would you say he is? You may select appropriate words from the box to answer the question. RT

greedy naive stupid ungrateful selfish comical unquestioning

Ans. No, we hardly find people like Lencho in the real world. We would say that Lencho was a hardworking, honest, simple and optimistic man. He had a firm belief in God. He was living away from the real world.

Fuentes describes Lencho as a man who has complete faith in God. He is a hardworking a farmer. He lives away from crowd in a lonely house in the valley. His corn field is destroyed by a hailstorm.

He writes a letter to God demanding hundred pesos. He is not a greedy man. He demands as much money as he needs. He is not selfish. He worries about his family. He is not a stupid. Postoffice employees laugh to see his letter to God.

However, he is not a comic character. It is his firm faith in God which inspires him to write the letter to God. He has unquestioning faith. Post master sends money to him on behalf of God. But Lencho calls the postoffice employees ‘as a bunch of crooks’ .

It does not mean that Lencho is ungrateful. He does not know that postoffice employees have helped him. To sum up Lencho is an honest man. He is hardworking and a firm believer of God. He has so much faith in God that he wrote a letter to God.

6. There are two kinds of conflict in the story : between humans and nature, and between humans themselves. How are these conflicts illustrated?
